Canada has entered into an agreement with Libya to form a Government of National Accord in Libya.
The agreement signed in Morocco and mediated by the United Nations, would oversee regional security in addition to helping restore unity and democracy in Libya.
Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued a statement saying, “Canada considers this agreement to be a promising first step in restoring unity and democracy in Libya, with important benefits for regional security.”
According to Dion, the new Government of National Accord would face challenges and that its success would need not only the support of international community but also the commitment of all Libyan stakeholders.
