Cabinet to Vote on “No-Fault” Insurance Scheme Amidst Opposition

Alberta’s cabinet is set to vote on the potential implementation of a “no-fault” auto insurance scheme on November 5. Under this system, individuals injured in motor vehicle accidents would no longer receive compensation for pain and suffering. The NDP has announced its opposition to the scheme, arguing that “insurance companies are making billions in profits while lobbying the government to abolish a tort-based system that compensates people for their injuries.”

Personal injury lawyers also contend that the proposed law is unconstitutional.
